The Challenge
Villagers responded to a survey in 2003 by showing their support for the re-ordering of St Michael’s Church. Rev Dr Brian Ford, at the request of the vicar Rev Jane Knowles, began the process of application for a faculty from the diocese to enable the work to begin.
The unique nature of the building meant that negotiations with church architects Acanthus Clews, and with bodies such as the Victorian Society and English Heritage, were complex and protracted.
The Oxford Diocesan Advisory Committee granted a faculty by October 2008. The Parochial Church Council, meeting at that time, voted for the project to be undertaken led by a steering committee.
